1922 Types 1-2
Counties had a (type 2) plate produced late in the production
run with the higher numbers. A narrower die was used for the numbers,
the top slots were shifted a bit towards the center, the 4 mounting holes
were moved farther into the corners, and the border was no longer painted.
The plates were also lighter as a thinner gage steel was used, possibly
confusing some to think they are made of aluminum as is reported.
Known Counties with type 2 are Pima (above), Mohave & Coconino.
Mohave made the switch somewhere between 10-1015 and 10-1071.
(Lower Plate is from the Az Historical Society, Tucson)
