The Historic Vehicle plates debuted in 1977.
These are now used on cars with at least 25 years of age .

All 3-digit Historic Vehicle plates were made of solid copper
as well as the all-numeric 4-digit plates,(0001-9999)
.
Solid copper was phased out of production in the 001W series
sometime between plate #297W and #775W. But plates lately
have been alternating back and forth between metals since
some are magnetic and others aren't.
