Originally
Horseless Carriage plates were used on vehicles that were 30
years
of age or older. In 1977 this was changed to vehicles of 1919
vintage and older.
First year of issue: 1956. All are made of copper.

The Historic
Vehicle plates debuted in 1977.
These are now used on cars with at least 25 years of age .
(NOTE: Current Historic Vehicle plates are magnetic and being made of a copper-blend)
All 3-digit
Historic Vehicle plates were made of solid copper as well as the
all-numeric 4-digit plates,(0001-9999). The 001A
thru 999Z series followed.
Solid copper was phased out of production in the 001W series
sometime between plate #297W and #775W
